You Belong With Me Karaoke
How do you politely ask someone if they’re gay?
I’m friends with this guy at college. I’ve had three classes with him and we talk regularly, so we’re not quite close, but not acquaintances either. If he is gay, it would not affect our friendship but the only thing affecting our friendship is I feel that he may be going to extreme lengths to hide something. My only clues are: a) His voice b) The fact that he mentioned cross-dressing for a karaoke night, c) He belongs to a suspicious frat, d) His sense of humor, mannerisms, and obsession with fashion, e) He is friends with this other gay guy I know, f) Not “looking for” anything on Facebook i.e. no mention of sexual orientation, g) No pictures or a hint of a previous girlfriend in his FB pictures.
I know these are not exactly solid proof! It could be that he is not gay but insecure about something else. If he’s gay and is worried about coming out to me, I just don’t want him to feel anxious about that because I would totally hug him and still be his friend anyway!
You will know for sure eventually without even asking, but from the sounds of it I think you already know the answer.
