Why are Japanese crazy about karaoke ?
Wherever you go in Japan, people are singing on karaoke. Why?
It’s something people can do with their coworkers that’s relaxing and a change from just drinking. There are karaoke places open 24 hours so it’s also something to do after going to bars, and some karaoke places have good specials on drinks. The booths are fairly private so it’s a good thing to do on a date if you want to be alone with someone but don’t want to take them home. It’s also something social that doesn’t involve deep conversation so there aren’t as many awkward moments. And it can be pretty cheap if you go in a group and everyone chips in.
