Before hiring a DJ you need to be aware of two important things:
The host should never assume that a DJ knows everything. You are organizing the event and you know better what you guests will expect to hear. He should be having a clear conception of your requirements and act accordingly.
You are the employer and the DJ works for you. They should know well in advance what is needed and expected. They are also expected to bring their own music equipments and make their own arrangements.

Sometimes hiring a DJ can be more costly since they keep on updating the collections. They often upload their play list in websites so as to get complete access of your need. So this incurred heavy cost on buying, up to date music.
It is always better to give details of your demand on the number of tracks & the number of people invited. Usually they keep music on type of event. That can vary from party to concert.
In case of outdoor or indoor program the setup changes. Furthermore, a DJ should possess the right equipment for handling larger events.
DJs always work on their own contracts and so require some amount of deposit. There are many who have non refundable deposits whereas some refund deposits up to certain time limit.
Some of them charge their services on a flat rate while some others charge on the basis of hour. There are many who charge on the basis of half an hour rate after a basic time which is usually about four hours.
