Every coin has two sides and this is applicable to the use of ring tones as well as there are advantages and disadvantages of this facility. The main advantages are in form of profit earned by certain industries and proving to be a guaranteed method of informing the cell phone user of the incoming call.

Hence, a ring tone may be monophonic which features one note at a time, polyphonic which denotes the creation of several notes from synthesized instruments, true tone which is a audio recording and a part of a song or a sing tone which is in form of a karaoke featuring a recorded voice with a pre-set track to play as a ring tone.
