How Karaoke Machine Works
How the heck do you get a turntable to work?
I just bought a turntable so my parents can simply listen to their old records.
It has a built in pre-amp and is supposed to just connect the red and white cables and the grounder.
I’ve tried connecting it to a couple of tv’s, a home mini stereo, a home theater system and even my karaoke machine. It usually spins and a couple times I heard a reallllly faint noise which sounded like a song but other than that…nothing.
How the heck do I get this thing to work? My parents anniversary is today and I plan on giving it to them later but would like to know at least how it’s supposed to work.

OK, so it has a pre-amp, but does not have an amp. That means it makes a sound signal, but requires an amp to boost the signal into sound.
I assume it has RCA type cables with a pokey thing in the middle and a circle around it. You should be able to hook it into your home theatre system if it has plugs that say either “line in”, or “from DVD”.
Likewise on the mini stereo, there should be plugs that say “line in”. Some mini sterios are made to plug in an mp3 player or ipod. If this is the case, you need to go to your local electronics shop and purchase an adapter that converts from the RCA plug into the single small headphone jack.
